Turning the youth unemployment crisis into opportunity
Since the onset of the recent financial crisis and the associated increase in unemployment, in particular youth unemployment, there has been a strong increase in public attention on these issues; with leading labor market organizations such as the UN International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as policymakers devoting a lot of capacity to coming up with viable solutions. Likewise, some of the largest employers in the world have started implementing novel youth employment schemes. However, there are many more initiatives out there that are overlooked or not reported in the media despite suggesting promising solutions to the crisis. These potential solutions are discussed behind the closed doors of policymakers and rarely pass through to the public. This book gives a sense of the drivers of the crisis and substantive suggestions about how to solve it.
